The World has been waiting in excited anticipation to discover the designer of Kate Middleton’s royal wedding dress, and now we wait no longer! We live and breathe weddings as a retail store for wedding dresses from some of the nation’s hottest bridal designers, so we just couldn’t wait to see which designer Kate had selected.
Kate’s dress was designed by Sarah Burton, the creative director for the late Alexander McQueen
According to CBSnews.com, “Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing,” the palace said in a statement. “Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen’s work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.”
Kate Middleton’s dress is made from ivory and white satin gazar, and the bodice and skirt feature hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace. The train measures almost nine feet long.
The second the dress was revealed, it reminded many of Grace Kelly’s classic and beautiful wedding dress, designed by MGM‘s Academy Award–winning Helen Rose, it was worked on for six weeks by three dozen seamstresses. According to Designer Mark Badgley, “[Kate's gown] is the kind of gown that’s going to stand the test of time.”
We were so excited to hear the designer’s opinion early this morning, as Badgley Mischka is a renowned and respected brand in the bridal industry!
A beautiful, timeless blend of class and modern. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
